Location: San Antonio, TX
Project Size: 53,000 ft2
Jesse Garza led the design of the 53,000-square-foot Sister Elizabeth Anne Sueltenfuss Library at Our Lady of the Lake University, a replacement facility strategically sited to unify the historic neo-Gothic campus with its eastern expansion. The three-story library provides undergraduate and graduate students, faculty, and the surrounding community with modern learning resources, including stacks, study rooms, carrels, special collections, and a technology center for distance learning. A two-story entrance and grand stair create a strong sense of arrival, while an atrium visually connects levels and showcases a relocated mural by Jesse Treviño. The architecture blends contemporary design with modern interpretations of neo-Gothic elements through window forms, masonry arches, and an exposed steel roof structure, while the brick and cut-stone exterior reinforces continuity with the historic campus fabric.
