Location: Canyon Lake, TX
Project Size: 2,600 ft2
"La Chica" is a reimagined weekend retreat on a two-acre site overlooking Canyon Lake, where a 1,200 sq. ft. elevated structure was transformed through a vertical addition that created a new family room and master suite while preserving its iconic wrap-around porch. The new volume ties seamlessly into the existing wood-column structure through an expressive cantilevered stair enclosure, and the upper-level family room captures 180-degree lake views with expansive glazing, complemented by a naturally lit master suite overlooking the wooded landscape. Nautical architectural cues—sloped roof forms, mast-like columns, and a vibrant crimson exterior—give the home a contemporary lakefront identity, further unified by cedar-wrapped columns, stucco, and natural materials. A subsequent outdoor living phase added a stone sound-buffering wall, tensile-fabric shade structures, an outdoor shower, and a full kitchen inspired by boat forms and Corten steel detailing. Sustainable strategies guided all design decisions, including local stone sourcing, low-waste construction practices, and efficient MEP systems, resulting in a durable, environmentally responsible lakeside retreat.
