Jesse Garza designed a two-story classroom addition and music room renovation for Braun Station Elementary School to expand capacity on a compact, sloped, and heavily wooded site. The single-loaded corridor layout maximizes natural light and provides expansive views of the surrounding trees—significantly improving the building’s connection to the outdoors compared to the 1982 original structure. Three stairways and a centrally located elevator support circulation, highlighted by durable glazed masonry at key transition points. The exterior employs exposed structural concrete, cast-stone window surrounds, glazed brick, and a full-height curved screening wall that protects residential privacy while allowing daylight to filter in. All materials and systems follow CHPS sustainable design guidelines, emphasizing energy efficiency, indoor environmental quality, and responsible material sourcing.
