Jesse Garza was commissioned by Northside ISD to renovate and expand Murray E. Boone Elementary School, a 1973 campus originally built with minimal natural lighting and unclear entry sequence. Our work focused on modernizing undersized administration, library, and special education areas, improving circulation and adjacencies, and introducing opportunities for daylight throughout the building. A new security lobby provides a clearly defined, controlled point of entry supported by video surveillance and enhanced visibility, while also giving the school a long-needed architectural focal point. Covered walkways from the drop-off areas improve safety for students and drivers and strengthen the connection between the entry and administration. Exterior upgrades—including unified brick cladding and materials that convey stability and scale—create cohesive architecture that ties together new and existing elements. All materials and systems were designed using CHPS sustainability best practices to improve environmental quality, efficiency, and long-term performance.
